Berlenga Grande

The only island you can visit, a plateau of rounded pink granite about 300 million years old, roughly 1.5 km by 800 m, its coastline deeply cut into coves, caves, arches and carreiros (channels). Two of those channels very nearly split it in two, giving it a figure-of-eight shape and setting the wilder Ilha Velha apart from the rest. The lighthouse crowns its highest point.
