Berlengas Thrift
Armeria berlengensis · Arméria-das-berlengas

EndémiqueCritically Endangered
A small cushion-forming subshrub that grows nowhere else on Earth, gripping granite fissures with fine roots. It occurs on Berlenga, the Estelas and the Farilhões, on outcrops, scree and cliffs, and flowers pink in April and May, right along the trails. Once abundant, it has declined sharply and is now Critically Endangered, threatened by gull-guano over-nitrifying the soil and by the spread of the invasive hottentot fig.
