Carreiro do Mosteiro

The island's beach and historic anchorage, a short crescent of sand below the campsite on the site of the vanished Misericórdia monastery. It is where the boats from Peniche land, and its startlingly clear, cold water makes it the island's easiest swim and snorkel; the old anchorage yielded one of Portugal's richest hauls of Roman amphorae.
