Ssaki morskie

Striped Dolphin

Stenella coeruleoalba · Golfinho-riscado

A slender, elegant dolphin marked by two thin dark stripes running back from each eye, over a dark back and pale flanks. It is markedly oceanic, usually seen near the shelf break or in water approaching 1,000 m deep, but the nutrient-rich water welling up from the Nazaré Canyon brings it within reach of the Berlengas. Very active, it can leap up to seven metres high.
