Pallid Swift

Apus pallidus · Andorinhão-pálido

A summer visitor that breeds in the Berlengas, nesting in rock cavities on the Estelas islets. It is told from the Common Swift by its browner plumage, paler throat and more rounded wingtips. It returns early, in March, raises two broods, and leaves late for Africa in September; birds studied nearby have lived at least fourteen years.
