Tope Shark
Galeorhinus galeus · Cação
Locally extinct as a breeder
Until the 1950s the tope shark came to spawn at the Berlengas in such numbers that they named the Carreiro dos Cações after it. Today it is extinct there as a breeding species, most likely the result of overfishing.
